You should be able to recover it without booting into windows though, usually there is a recovery partition you will have to google your model type to see what the prompts are...

just delete all files and reinstall windows. search it. transfer your files to an external hdd or usb

I've already recovered it and it works fine. However, I want a bigger internal HDD.

If you have the UEFI key (which it sounds like you do), go for it. It will be no different than reformatting your current HDD.
