How can I tell if it has a modular bay? If I do, where is the latch?

You can tell it's a modular bay if you can swap the DVD drive out for a hard drive or some other component. Usually you can tell it's modular by the presence of a latch. The latch would probably be located at the bottom of the laptop. Based on your responses it doesn't sound like you have the technical knowledge to service the laptop yourself. I recommend that you just buy a USB DVD drive instead of messing around with the laptop and potentially causing further damage. It's highly likely that the DVD drive is broken so you're most likely looking at replacing it or getting a USB DVD drive to use instead.

I have an IQ of 160 (based on an online IQ test), so it'll be easy to wrap my head around it. Plus I'm in all honors classes in school.
