Basic desktop for non gaming. School and multimedia not including gaming. Amazon preferred because of prime shipping. Is it doable? only tower no need for os or any other things.

That's definitely possible, but is it worthwhile? Probably not.

Multimedia means gaming-tier. If you're going to do it right.

Meaning, if you want to upscale your non-HD videos to make it look as good as a console could make it look. Otherwise you're better off running that video through consoles or DVD players.
How many mods does it take to screw in a light bulb? "the lightbulb is technically not violating the TOS so we're powerless to do anything about it"

What I meant was 1080p videos, music etc. as those fall under multimedia... but it is simple stuff. Not looking to game on this rig at all.

I would spend a bit more. Closer to 400 and you would have dynamite HTPC. Grab a 5800k or 6800k (probably go 5800k to save money and its really not that much worse) and then just get whatever board/case/HDD/ram is the cheapest you can find. Only other thing I wouldn't cheap out on is the PSU. Don't want some crap off brand PSU frying your system. EVGA makes a fairly low cost 500 watt 80+ bronze unit. I got one for a friends computer for 30 bucks after rebate.
3570k @ 1.260v - 4.6Ghz, GTX 580 @ 980/2106, ASUS Sabertooth z77, 8GB G.Skill Sniper 1600MHZ, Intel 335 SSD (boot).

OK, makes sense. Multimedia is definitely doable or "good enough" on non-gaming tier PCs.
