Never played it but the studio that made it is no more so I'm hesitant... Is it worth 13.59? Anyone here have it to share personal experience?

It is great. I am not sure why Microsoft shut down Ensemble Studios however.

The online servers are still up. The average number of players is very low. Like 1000 players average, but its still easy to find games, but there is still pretty good amount of content.

If you want mods, custom campaigns, etc...

Honestly I still think the game is worth it at 40 dollars (with all expansions).

I still don't know why Ensemble Studios closed, Age of Empires 3 sold really well. More than 5 million copies.

Also more people play the Vanilla version of the game.

Not the best AoE, but still a decent RTS.

Worth it. The expansions are great too.

Age of Empires III is my FAVORITE AoE... I love entering the enemy base with a whole army backed up by cannons and howitzers and then totally blowing the f*** out of it until the CPU resigns...

The whole "Card" collecting aspect of it is probably my least favorite but it still allows you to change up how your Civ fights based on your own personal strategies. I loved this game so much I bought it for myself and then bought all of my friends copies of it so we could have fun playing it.

Has some nice graphics, even today, cool units(Musketeers, Samurai, Hotwitzers just to name a few) and some interesting resource gathering methods which feels both familiar yet is different.

The card mechanic is...weird as said, but it helps to customise your chosen civilisation to your liking, be it a more economic powerhouse, or through passive bonuses. Of course, those cards only apply during gameplay.

There are some slight issues though, but it's not really bad (if you were to group calvary and infantry units together, they will move at the EXACT same speed. Do note calvary is faster than infantry, which means your entire battalion will move very slowly)

The expansion packs introduce 6 new factions to the already playable...8 with their own individual mechanics. But if I had to suggest, Asian Dynasties > Warchiefs.
