Which to you want?
A rig with a good price to performance ratio, or a rig that can max high end games perfectly?
You can't have both.

I'm going to second that.

Could potentially go with a comparable Nvidia card, or even two mid end for SLI. I run two 660's, runs very well even at 1440p.
You can buy a $500 console and a $500 computer and have two crap machines, or you can spend $1000 building your own computer and have the best of both worlds.

You are not going to max graphically demanding games with only $1200 to spend, not if your definition of maxing a game is turning AA as far as the game allows and getting 60+fps.

Price/performance is something you can do well though.

CPU and motherboard combo saves $60 if purchased together. This CPU is the best price/performance you can currently get IMO ($355 after $60 savings):

Cooling unit for CPU ($30, $20 after rebate):

8GB RAM ($75):

Two 3GB 7950s ($360 after rebates, $400 before... includes your choice of six free games from gold tier of AMD Never Settle promotion. Can be "banked" until end of year for other titles to be added later. BF4 is heavily rumored to be added)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127737

Crucial M4 64GB SSD will allow room for your OS to boot fast, and enough room for BF4 so you load into matches very quickly ($85)

PSU Modular 750W ($120)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371066

Case: CM Stormtrooper. Don't skimp on a good case! Spacious well ventillated cases keep your temps low. Plenty of dust filters to keep your components clean. A great case. ($150)

This is $1215 before rebates. After rebates it's $1165.

This is your best price vs performance options today IMO. You COULD shave $50 by getting a $99 case instead, and COULD forget about the SSD and use the extra money to get two 7970s for $610 ($580 after rebates) but that's your call. More power means more settings you can crank up, but I would want the better case and SSD for loading in matches of BF3 as fast as possible.

I don't like the Ghz edition's price mark up to be honest. 7970s OC very well as it is. $290 vs $365 after rebates is a big $75 premium to pay when you stand a very good chance of being able to OC a standard 7970 to near or equal to the GHz models.
