Speaking of Unreal tournament, what video driver in the menu is best to use? From before I was using OpenGl and then direct3d, but the latter causes a bright screen after I quit the game or Alt-tab switch programs.

Another question, what are the advantages to Q3 arena that UT does not have if any? I could never bring myself to play Q3a after playing UT.
UT happens to be the FPS game that got me into PC gaming by the way

Insofar as at release time I believe that Quake 3 Arena had somewhat better native graphics and that the action was slightly faster in pacing. As things currently stand I don't have the foggiest. Both games seem to have had their source code released at some point so now they're both open to fan-made updates and more comprehensive fan mods than were available during the games official lifetimes.
Stop complaining. I could have done this more painfully. - Dryad from Sacred 2.

I had the Voodoo 1 (4MB, IIRC), then the Voodoo 2 (I can't remember if I had the 8MB or 12MB version, but I know I couldn't afford to buy two, so no SLI mode for me!). Carmageddon looked very nice in 3DFX mode, this was back in the day when most (maybe all) games were software mode only (and usually written for DOS, though they'd run under Windows), but later on patches were written for some games to make them use 3D hardware.

One old school game i really need to play is System Shock 1. I played System Shock 2 plenty, but never 1.

I remember the book that came with Wing Commander 3 had pictures of System Shock 1 in it and a little backstory about how it was the hottest new game in the Wing Commander universe or something.

There's really no connection between Wing Commander and System Shock. Hell, Ultima dropped a few hints that it's set in the same universe, even having the Kilrathi appear in Ultima I, long before Wing Commander existed! But System Shock has no such references I'm aware of. Is it possible it actually said words to the effect of "the hottest new game from the Wing Commander creators" or something like that?

To be fair didn't Ultima one also have you go into space and destroy Tie Fighters to become a Space Ace? Hell I think one of the ships you could get was meant to be an X-wing.

It's true, although apparently it's only in the 3do version of the book. Check it out.
