Or will one suffice for maxing Battlefield 4? And if you go 2560 x 1600, are you locked in to buying and SLing high end cards to maintain playable framerates?

I would think one card would suffice. My Titan has been able to max every game 1600p @ 60fps that I've thrown at it. Except BF4 when there's a lot of things happening at once.
