And are the games inside also compatible with the DLC from any digital version?

Yes they require origin. Mass Effect 3 isn't on Steam.

Do they require a code to work, or will just installing from the disc and adding it to Origin be enough, making it safe to get a used copy?

EDIT: Oh, and the boxed version has all DLC from ME1 included, right? What about Zaeed DLC?
