I upgraded to W8 then upgraded to W8.1. As soon as that happened, I got freezes everywhere, Windows Update would get stuck and crash, opening an application such as Windows Upgrade Assitant would take 45 seconds to open while on W7 it opens instantly. Now I had to downgrade back to W7. Has anyone experienced this before? I did a clean install of W8.1 yet it felt like a poor excuse of an OS, not smooth or anything.

Complete waste of money if you already have Windows 7.

Win8 is a great OS. I haven't had any issues at all. If anything, it runs better than 7 ever could. Even boots and shuts down more than twice as fast. Sounds like you burned a bad disc.

I had the same exact experience. I just went back to 7 where everything is running smooth as butter again.

I like W7, but already paid $15 for W8 upgrade last year. It wasn't a disk that I used, I just did the "Install Now" from the upgrade assistant. I am going to try again. I like W8.1 because of all the latest drivers for it and the UI. Metro isn't even that bad since I create groups on the Start screen.

I did the same upgrade from windows 7 to 8.1 without any problems. I downloaded the windows 8 iso as well as the windows 8.1 iso from microsoft directly, and burned the discs from there. You need both a windows 8 key, and to look up how to get windows 8.1 iso using the windows 8 download trick.

Afterwards, i installed windows 8 with a clean format, not upgrade, and upgraded to windows 8.1.

Lastly, i did a complete reset using windows 8.1 so that i ended up with a new windows 8.1 install, not a windows 8 to 8.1 upgrade.

Exactly the same thing happened to me.

There were a couple patches Microsoft released afterwards, once I installed those, all the performance issues went away. Have you installed all the latest Windows updates in addition to 8.1?
