Is it just me, or are DoF and Motion Blur a waste of resource?

Depth of field makes things look blurry. It tries to mimic human focus, but that's not possible to do for a game. Instead it's more like pictures or video footage. Sometimes it can make a pretty image, but when I'm playing a game I need everything to be as clear as possible.

And the way motion blur is implemented... it's not exactly realistic either. Looks much like in pictures or video, but not accurate to real life. And overal, it's rather distracting in gameplay.

I find that games look much better, more clear & smoother without these things enabled and they cost a decent amount of processing power as well. So is this just me or do most of you guys think these features truly add to the gaming experience?

I'm not a huge fan of motion blur either (though I mostly leave it on unless it's really strong like in Crysis or something).

But I do like DoF I'm afraid. I find it immerses me more in the game, even if it's not too accurate to real life as you mentioned.

I think motion blur has a negligible effect on resources, but I might be wrong.

I know a bunch of people who like DoF but most pc gamers seem to agree that motion blur is crap. I turn of both effects whenever I can.

I turn them both off. the problem I have with dof is its always too strong and over most of the screen. If they made it weak and just at the edges of the screen I think it would be much better.

Very light motion blur can look alright but I wouldn't call myself a fan. Not sure that I've ever played a game with DoF, at least not with it on. Definitely haven't noticed it if I have.
