I know they aren't making updates for XP anymore, but I never realized they meant you wouldn't be able to download the ones they had already made.

Is there anywhere you can get them? I of course don't use XP much anymore, I only use it for GTR2, which stutters sometimes and has strange CPU related performance issues with windows 7. Yes I've tried everything under the sun to make it run like it does under XP, no it isn't possible. No I'm not surfing the web and going online etc. It's merely a legacy OS for this particular game.

Wait what? You can still get the old updates.
Open your start menu, all programs, and chose windows updates.
It should take you to the website.

I believe it takes you here

Why, when I already have the real thing? I've never VM before, and I can hardly imagine it being very efficient. What's it like?

It's easy man, just grap a VM software and install the OS through that (they hold your hand now, cake). Then you can have a quarantined XP box that will never affect the rest of your system. It requires next to no computing power and runs buttery smooth if your PC is even half decent.

Do VM's support 3D acceleration yet?

Yes, most of the latest do. VMWare comes to mind first.
