Also, is there any way to get my system to output via optical (for surround system)?

Is there any downside to getting a cheaper one?

As an example, my ASUS monitors have always had uniformity issues, but my HP one does not.

I just retired a pretty similar system (Phenom II X3 720 w/4th core unlocked at 3.4ghz plus a 7850) and I had no trouble running all but the most demanding stuff on it with high settings at 60fps. Dark Souls 2 was no problem maxed out, which was the last game I really played on it. It struggled a bit with open world games though, like Black Flag, which I had to cap at 30fps.

It's an entry level gpu so there's no negative.

Buy the Twin Frozr if you go MSI, it usually have better clock speed because it better cooling so better overclocking too, otherwise go Gigabyte usually have the best clock.
