Hi all. I have a very annoying problem with my Radeon 6950. The fan is constantly blaring at 100%. I've uninstalled/deleted/reverted drivers endlessly to no avail. I've tried changing it in CCC, doesn't work. I downloaded MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z, both confirm it's running at 100%. Changing it in Afterburner doesn't work as well.

Any ideas?

Take the card out, boot it to desktop, then shut it down, out the card back in.

Did just that (even shut down the computer with key commands since I had no monitor), no change.

MSI Afterburner and CCC say it's running at whatever I set the fan to in either app, but it's definitely still 100%.

What are the temperatures? Did this just start? How long have you had the card? Wad there anything obvious that you changed before this problem started?

Temp sensors say my GPU is at 1000ºC+, which obviously is wrong. Maybe that is making my GPU fan run at 100% and won't let me override it?

I've had the card 3-4 years, and I've never had any problems with it. Occasionally it would jump up to high RPM's for a few seconds then back down, but that's it. This is just constantly spinning at 100%.

You may want to move your computer further away from the center of the earth, gets hot down there.

But yes, I would imagine a faulty temperature sensor is the culprit, you might be better off with a new card.

If I can't control the fan speed with CCC or Afterburner, is all hope lost for getting that done? I don't care if the GPU thinks it's 10000ºC, as long as I can change the fan speed to a audibly reasonable speed.
