Any suggestions? I don't know a thing about RPG's except that they are called role playing games. I prefer those with actual combat rather than the turn based crap.

Final Fantasy. The entire catalog is on Steam, nearly. Elder Scrolls and Fallout are also good RPG series' to get into if you're more interested in action.

@Slay: What do you mean? Is it an online only game?

BTW, is that new Berseria game good?

Yeah, I'll get FO4 soon.

Warband is amazing single player and multiplayer, it's up to you how you want to play. It's a massive game filled with action and conquest.

Final Fantasy VI, VII, Chrono Trigger. VII is definitely on Steam.

If you want something on the classic computer style I'd suggest Diablo 3 to get your toes. There's some guys in here that could definitely stear you in the best direction for that, I'm in a meeting and just woke up. Fallout 1 and 2 are classic, cheap and relatively simple too.

Be aware that JRPG's are very different from Western RPG's 99% of the time.

Good starter RPG's for what you're interested in:

Morrowind/Oblivion. (Skyrim is not an RPG)
Fallout Series (you'll probably be more into the later ones, and definitely get the Tale of Two Wastelands for FO3 and NV)
The already mentioned Mount and Blade (but get mods immediately though after you get a grasp of how the game works. Its much more worth it then keeping on with vanilla)
Dragon Age: Origins (its sort of turn based ish but they hide it pretty well and its still a really good game regardless)
Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2. Lets revitalize this game eh?
