VR isn't gonna die off completely anytime soon. Just that the tech has a way slower start than the manufacturers' anticipation.

It's like 3D, wearing peripherals in the living room doesn't generally do well with the mass market.

I think it will stay niche until it gets it short 'fad' window when there are enough reasonably priced or F2P experiences and games on a completely wireless headset.

VR will become very big when it becomes much cheaper. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain dumb.. VR is amazing compared to the usual games that are always s*** out.

It'll be like phones. Cheaper hardware will be available but the flagship models will be where it's really at.

It's not a slow start. It's probably par for the course, but especially if you consider that the business side of VR is taking off like crazy overseas.

It's like 3D,

Spoken like someone who doesn't know what the f*** they're talking about.

3D TV failed because you were taking a group activity (Watching movies and TV) and making it a mostly solo experience (unless you happened to own multiple pairs of the glasses) and nobody was really asking for 3D TV. (Not to mention 3D movies have failed multiple times in the past because they can't make a 3D movie that isn't just people pointing stuff directly at the camera for a gimmick).

PC gaming is ALREADY a mostly solo experience with the exception of going online and playing games that way. It doesn't matter if only one person can wear the headset at a time because most of the time there's only one person playing the PC anyway. (It's also why there's so few split screen PC Games or local co-op).

HOWEVER you can still play a few games with local co-op or asymmetrical gameplay where one person is in VR and the other is on the PC with controller or mouse and keyboard.

The major limiting factors in VR is the price of the headset and the amount of CPU/GPU power needed to run it. You might also possibly add the ease of setting the whole thing up since the cheapest option right now requires you to run cables all over your room for the cameras.

By the time the 2nd Generation of VR comes out, the 1st Generation is going to be cheap and PC's will be able to handle it with more mid-range hardware. There will probably always be a bleeding edge for VR and everyone else will just be behind the curve.
