Disregarding the dual gpu setup like the 3870x2, 4870x2, and 7990.

Was the x1900xtx/x1950xtx the last single gpu performance king of ATI/AMD that singlehandedly defeated its intended rival card from Nvidia?

I fail to see why I should care about "technology" when the games run like s*** compared to Nvidia counterparts. People saying "b-b-but HBM2" who gives a flying f*** what is inside the GPU if it cannot perform up to par?

My Titan X could be constructed out of cardboard and tape for all I care as long as it performs as it should.

Well it's been an excessively long time since amd was ahead in technology. It's been amd v8s vs nvidia 4s for ages. With the 4 bangers decimating the big blocks in all but raw torque.

The Fury X was "competitive". with the 980Ti.
The 7970 was the best single-GPU at the time.

The 7970 was an excellent card....but I haven't looked at AMD ever since I sold that card.
