Finished building my brother's PC today and was worried about the wireless card being underneath the GPU fan so I did it like so.

Is there no problem with the GPU on top and the wireless card being on the bottom?

your motherboard will tell you in the BIOS what lanes the card is running at. my guess is that it will alot the correct 16 lane configuration to the VGA regardless of what slot its in.

also to keep in mind, is if one slot is PCI-Express 3.0 vs one being 2.0. I seem to remember motherboards out there that do have that configuration.

You should put the GPU in the upper slot as it is the only PCIe 2.0 x16 slot. Bottom one is only PCIe 2.0 x4.

You can put the wifi card in the bottom slot.

Wifi card is too small to effectively block the GPU fans.

Why hasn't anyone questioned why he's running wireless on a gaming pc?

Sometimes that's the only option.

If you can spend money on a $300 card, you have $40 to bounce for a powerline adapter.

Wireless is more than adequate for gaming and has been for a long, long time. Whether or not one's environment is suitable for wireless is another story. As far as the TC, check your motherboard manual and put the card in the slot that is 16x.
