I have this new hard drive that is in the anti static bag it comes with, but its only going in the computer temporarily so I'm not gonna bother screwing it in. Can I just keep it in the bag and run it like until I put it in the permanent PC? Or is there some reason I don't know about that makes that a bad idea?

Well, if nothing else, it'll trap the heat.

If you want to kill it with overheating, sure.

Seems like a horrible idea. Potential fire hazard also.

It will probably affect the breathing hole of the drive too, which helps regulate pressure inside and outside of the hard drive. There are so many cons than any pros in this situation.

What does being temporary have anything to with staying in the bag anyway? I swear some people just come up with the weirdest ideas on the planet for no apparent reason.

I'm sure TC thinks that without the anti-static bag, the spinning platters and high strength magnets will suck electrons from the wall sockets and then fry the electronics on everything in a straight line path to the drive (or something equally bad).

Just don't hold the drive while scooting your feet on the carpet and if you feel the need to touch anything maybe ground yourself first?
