It performs pretty similar to the vega 64 (about 2-3 fps off probably only because of slightly lower clock speed). It still beats out the vega 56 which is considered a gaming card.

So again why do people keep insisting that the FE is not a gaming card when it clearly performs up to par with AMD's gaming cards.

That was just an excuse people used for a $1000 GPU performing worse than a 1080.

Do you consider the Quadro P6000 a gaming card? It is technically the best gaming card, being faster than the Titan Xp but costs $5000.

Just because it can game doesn't mean it's a gaming card. Typically gaming cards are categorized as consumer priced cards that don't do much else besides gaming, they can do other tasks but aren't too suitable. Titan cards being a bit more capable for the latter, Titans are odd ducks.

Vega FE is workhorse compute card that just so happens can play games too. Nvidia's Quadro lineups can play games as well but it's price for performance is potato compared to actual gaming cards. You'd be silly to buy a Quadro or a Vega FE / 64 purely for gaming as there's just much better options out there for your money.
Mind the grue.
