Once advertisements became intrusive, I began blocking. Give me a banner ad, fine. Give me an image that darkens my whole screen, takes a few seconds to load the ad, then a few more seconds to allow me to close the ad and I'm out.

The hilarious ones are the ones that claim the page is 'loading' which is an outright fabricated lie and no loading is going on whatsoever. I haven't seen those that make the loading claim as much lately though.

I use Adblock Warning Removal List and Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek from the ublock origin 3rd party lists and I don't see jack s***.

Use AAK-Cont, Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek hasn't been maintained in several months.

I use ad blocker when I'm trying to read articles about my favorite side of twix bars. Quite frankly, the right bars in twix can go to hell.
Now, say my name.

I resisted using an adblocker for a long time.

I finally relented when websites (Cracked was the big one) began featuring video ads. I'm trying to watch a video on your site, and the ad is playing over it, louder, more annoying and on an infinite loop.

I usually have it paused now, only turning it on when the ads are loud/annoying or screw with the page layout. Which is far too often.

Speaking of video ads, is there any way to customize AdBlock to block those dumb videos Gamespot has on all their articles that autoplay upon opening the article?

They don't lose revenue from me since I wouldn't have clicked the ads anyways.

I understand why ads are needed but I'm not gonna play ball. Find some other way to make money that doesn't include annoying me.

f***'em then. I don't need their bulls*** site.

This. This all started because sites refused to take responsibility for the ads run on their site. Well guess what? If you won't fix your ads then we're going to turn them off. At this very moment an Ad on GameFAQs could give you a virus that shuts down your computer and the staff here would just say, "There's nothing we can do. Did you fill out a support ticket?" I later found out that my support ticket for an ad redirector was completely dismissed because I left a non-required field blank on the support ticket. If you don't have responsible ads then don't cry to me when I refuse to view them.

yeah i'm with you. and even then, for me- its not even about the security for me. if you're going to make money off of me, i am going to control how. i will not have annoying ads disrupting my browsing experience so you can make a fraction of a penny. f*** you; make money like a normal person. or don't, and go bankrupt. i don't care. i love how the main argument from those supporting ads is basically "well what if they just didn't provide the service then!" then they can get a normal job like the rest of society- ya know, back to the whole idea of "make money like a normal person". the idea of being held hostage to youtube personalities over ad revenue is so laughable- i spent the first 30 years of my life without pewdiepie's youtube channel, and i think i'll be just fine if it goes away.

Blocking ads is the epitome of egocentric selfishness

Oh get over yourself.

I got an AdBlock as newspaper adverts were so intrusive (flashing, animated, sometimes noisy) they distracted from reading, and on my older laptop they ground it to a literal halt (100% cpu usage).

If quality sites have unintrusive ads & request a whitelist I do so.

But there are plenty of s***heel sites that have created the need for advert blockers.
