Hey all,

I'm looking for a good ethernet switch. Right now I have a cable ran from my modem about 30ft to my PC, but I would like to get a splitter or a switch where I can take that line and allow it to go to my PC and consoles. Is this viable, and if so I would really appreciate advice on a good yet simple. Simple as in nothing flashy. I just need 4 ports max.

Thanks.

Honestly, switches are switches. Stick with a decent name brand (Netgear or D-Link IMO) and you'll be fine. I recently (couple years ago) picked up the Netgear GS105NA for a very similar purpose and it's been working like a charm.

just to confirm, your modem also doubles as a router, correct? If so then any switch will work. Otherwise you need to get a router.

You are correct. I have a router and a modem. My PC is hooked up via a 25-30 cat6 cable.

I was basically looking for a recommendation for just a non fancy switch.

That would be exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks! Looks like it's nothing fancy. Perfect.

Monoprice makes some decent ones for real cheap. I got an 8-port gigabit switch from them for like $12

Been using the metal housed Trendnet switches for ages with zero issues.
