Holy s***! Yes!

If this means we can finally get Fear Effect: Inferno, I'm on board! The inevitably cancelled third game in the series (technically the sequel to the first game, since Retro Helix was a prequel) was announced in 2002, but cancelled only a year later, in 2003. It "was the first of Eidos' victims to its more stringent quality assurance program," according to IGN, who broke the news of the game's cancellation. Apparently, much if not most of the game was done, but no publisher was interested in picking the game up at the time.

I still can't believe they canceled what looked to be an outstanding sequel to what was arguably one of the most unique series in Sony's catalog at the time. Here's hoping we'll have a chance to finally play it if Reinvented does well, and the presumed Retro Helix Reinvented sequel does equally well.

They might end up starting from scratch, at least for coding.

Right. That would make a lot of sense, as a whole console generation has passed since Inferno was cancelled. It would make little sense to use code from the PS2 version of the game for this console gen and PCs.

Still, if most of the game has been laid out, then they'd at least have a template to work with, which is what I'm hoping for. It sounds like the game was pretty much done, so it's possible very little pre-production work, like developing the plot, etc., would need to be done, assuming they were wanting to stick with Inferno's original story, whatever that would have been.

Either way, I'm hoping the remake is faithful to the original game, albeit with enough updates to bring it into the modern era, like happened with the Resident Evil remake.

System Shock Remake seems pretty faithful to the original.
