So I was watching a review yesterday of Vega 64, and the guy it was one of those youtube tech review guys, had a decent power supply but it kept on crashing. A power supply which was running SLI nVidia cards.

So in the end he had to put a 1000 watt psu in to use the Vega 64 without crashing.

I don't really know how to express my disapointment, I firmly support nVidia BUT they need strong competition to progress. I mean 4k gaming is still no where close to being mainstream.

So is this acceptable that you need 1000 watt psu to run a card? When the competition you could probably use half as powerful psu?

The secret to Nvidia's power efficiency is being unable to run at 100%.

Similar to how AMDs secret to not being relevant in the GPU market is using essentially the same architecture since the 7000 series?

Are you sure thats the approach you want to take here?

Because that means that even without running at "100%", 2 year old NV cards beat or trade with the brand spanking new kilowatt furnaces from AMD.

That doesnt really shed a nice light on AMD.

There's obviously something wrong with the original psu

My vega system doesn't use even half the wattage of my psu

google search vega power usage.

1070 draws 290 watts

vega 64 air 459 watts

wow seeing the figures it makes sense.

I will post the video later guys.

And no there was nothing wrong with his original PSU because he was running SLI nVidia cards and same PSU couldn't cope with the vega card.

So where does this leave me with my 4690s, 1SSD, 1HDD, 3 fans, and 550w? Is Vega going to require more than I have?
Hey, how come my two cents is only worth like a half a cent?
