I don't really have a good gaming rig (I mostly play on my consoles & handhelds) but it can play pretty much anything up to 2005 & maybe 2006. Here's what I have so far:

GTA 3
GTA San andreas
Morrowind
Star wars battlefront 2
NFS Most wanted
NFS Underground 1 & 2
Scarface - the world is yours
Deus Ex
Soldier of fortune 2
Ultimate Spiderman
Unreal tournament 99
Chrome Specforce
Mount & blade warband (surprising works)
Fallout 1 & 2
Age of empires 2
Lord of the rings 3 return of the king
Prince of Persia Warrior within & 2 thrones
Tony hawks pro skater 4
The Simpsons hit & run
Transformers the game
And then a handfull of Indie/Freeware games.

Anything I'm missing? I pretty much enjoy any genre.

I should also mention that my internet isn't good enough for online games.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Psychonauts
Planescape: Torment

Also, it might be post-2006 but there's also Terraria. If you turn down the lighting effects it should run perfectly.

In general, 2D Indie games, even recent ones, have very low system requirements. Try Shovel Knight or Valdis Story. I only have a feeble AMD E-300 and 3GB of Ram, and even I can get these games to run at full speed.

There's tons of decent games from recent years you can still play, unless you're deliberately looking for pre-2006 out of principal rather than necessity. Some games with low spec requirements off the top of my head:

Darkest Dungeon - Turn-based RPG revolving around individual hero management and a progressive grind to prepare you for the game's namesake.
DarkMaus - Lightweight top-down Dark Souls.
Death Road to Canada - Goofy as hell Oregon Trail-ish zombie game.
FTL: Faster Than Light - Roguelite space travel with CYOA elements.
Hyper Light Drifter - Pixel art hack-slasher with obscure storytelling.
Killing Floor - Horde mode co-op FPS. If you can play Warband then you can probably play this.
Stardew Valley - Farming game heavily inspired by Harvest Moon. Very comfy game.
Xenonauts - A good XCOM clone; turn-based strategy game to progressively fight aliens and research their tech.
A pc's brain is the cpu, its heart is the motherboard, its stomach is the hard drive, and its anus is the user.
