Dont bother getting a racing wheel if you cant get the full setup (triple monitors, racing seat, racing wheel, pedals, etc).

VR is where its at now my friend. VR with a wheel is magnificent. We need better resolution vr however, but it will come. Even with current headsets, it's absolutely incredible how immersive the games can be.

This.

Add bass shakers to your cockpit like I did and you're in immersion city.

Yep. Good racing games are still good with a controller.

I tried GT with both a wheel and controller. Wheel won hands down. You need the precision that comes with a wheel.

Was the game bad with a controller tho?

It's important to know what the rules are first, so that, when you decide to break them, you can better judge the effect.

For the most part the only people that invest in wheels are hardcore racing game lovers, similar to people buying special peripherals for fighting games or flight sims.

The standard 360 controller or something similar does a decent job if you ask me but, I don't care about "realism" when I play a racer.

I never use a wheel, pain in the ass expensive peripherals for specific games are too much for me, and I do as well with a controller anyway. I've never been like, damn these analog sticks I could have taken that corner if only I had a wheel. It's not a keyboard and mouse vs controller for FPS thing, you can definitely be as competitive with a controller. Joysticks for space shooters are probably essential admittedly.

If you feel like it would enhance your experience, you should just get it.
Geforce GTX whatever, i7 something or rather, some sticks of ram, an SSD and a Hard Drive with stuff on it.

There is fun to be had with a controller, but if you want the best lap times, you need a wheel.
