The adversarial relationship of the DRAM user and producer continues Over the full market cycle, each side presses its advantage as much as possible. Historically, the DRAM market has been the most volatile of the major IC product segments. Figure 1 reinforces that statement by showing that the average selling price (ASP) for DRAM has more than doubled in just one year. In fact, the September Update to The McClean Report will discuss IC Insights’ forecast that the 2017 price per bit of DRAM will register a greater than 40% jump, its largest annual increase ever! But yeah, RAM prices have been a s***show for too long. It's a shame, as many things are starting to justify/demand it more and more. 16GB is about the minimum in a modern mid-high end gaming rig now. And that'll probably run you $130+ for just the RAM.

What games come close to using 16GBs?

Hardly any and I am tired of people saying 16GB is the minimum for gaming with ram prices so expensive now

You can run 99% of games with 8 and 16 is just a luxury so you can have your 30 porn tabs open while playing pubg

Does this have anything to do with the change from DDR3 to DDR4? I don't remember RAM being that expensive while DDR3 was the norm, though I really didn't look at it much aside from when I built my PC back in 2013 and when I added 8 GB for like $60 during black Friday a couple years ago.

Increase in demand for ram, mostly iPhones and other smart devices.

I guess I should say 16GB is a 'recommended' minimum if you aren't on a strict budget.

Some games like Arkham Knight run like s*** with less than 12GB in the system. Others, like PUBG can use 8GB+ all by themselves. 16GB is a good number to shoot for if you don't want to have problems. 8GB is compromising due to budget or availability.

That's exactly why I said "Mid-high end gaming rig". If you're on a budget, you probably aren't buying $300+ GPUs and significantly over $100 on RAM.

Ram prices
SSD prices
GPU prices

they are all above what they should be.

Bad time for new builders or people looking to upgrade. Thankfully even though my PC is almost 2 years old It runs every game I ever play just fine. Wont even be looking to upgrade any thing till the 1180 TI most likely.

Forza Horizon requires 12 gigs of RAM as recommended I believe.
