Ram prices
SSD prices
GPU prices

they are all above what they should be.

Bad time for new builders or people looking to upgrade. Thankfully even though my PC is almost 2 years old It runs every game I ever play just fine. Wont even be looking to upgrade any thing till the 1180 TI most likely.

I got a tiny SSD for the OS pretty much. And maby a game like Battlefield since the difference in loading is massive and that edge to get into the map faster is needed.

16GB is about the minimum in a modern mid-high end gaming rig now.

What games come close to using 16GBs?

pretty much any well coded game will use over 8. a game is SUPPOSED to use as much ram as the system can give it. i have no idea where the mentality that more ram usage = badly optimized came from. the more ram a game properly utilizes, the better it will run.

Increase in demand for ram, mostly iPhones and other smart devices.

Yeah, this has been an ongoing issue for some time now.

I didn't read the links in the OP, but recently a lot of places have specifically named iPhone 8 production as consuming a lot of DRAM. I also remember hearing about a major manufacturer suffering a warehouse or factory fire a year or two ago, but I thought that only really impacted SSDs. It looks like the shortage is expected to last until at least 2018, but I wouldn't be surprised if it stretches further.

Hardly any and I am tired of people saying 16GB is the minimum for gaming with ram prices so expensive now

You can run 99% of games with 8 and 16 is just a luxury so you can have your 30 porn tabs open while playing pubg

Forza Horizon requires 12 gigs of RAM as recommended I believe.

Space Engineers recommends 16GB RAM, Planet Coaster 12GB.

Just two I remember from my collection.
Idiots voting for idiots.

Generalized statements like this are bulls***. You can allocate 10GBs of RAM and then do nothing with it. That's not efficient, in fact it's the opposite.

Weird, it's almost like I didn't throw in the conditional "properly utilizes"

Actually... I was watching that TechDeals guy on YouTube check the memory while reviewing that CyberPower PC (i5, 480, 8gb ram) and the system was using just a bit over 8. So you may not need 16, but you probably need more than 8 if you don't want the system swapping memory to the hard drive. It's just that the most convenient step up from 8 is 16.

And holy hell have RAM prices increased. Like I said, last November I got my 16GB kit for $75. Try finding that deal now.
