Does anyone else get triggered when people add in an extra C and call it "CC Cleaner"?

ATM Machine

ATM Machine is not the first thing that comes to mind when I hear ATM. Yes I'm a sick individual.

I see - "aspirin to mouth", eh? I hope you get well soon.

Yes that's it exactly. Has nothing at all to do with the twisted group of friends I have.

Twisted friends? I understand - I've heard living with boneitis is tough.

Honestly never used CCleaner on my win7, and it's been going strong for like 4-5 years at least. I delete files manually...

Due to CCleaner being compromised, I cannot longer trust this piece of software I've used nearly a decade anymore. Are there any alternatives to CCleaner that perform the same?

It was an old, 32 bit version. I don't think that screams "security hole". Also, what's stopping you from using it and then uninstalling it when you're done?

lmao @ "old version"

Release History:

v5.34.6207 (12 Sep 2017)
v5.33.6162 (15 Aug 2017)
v5.32.6129 (11 Jul 2017)

Yup, the most recent version that most people probably had for an entire month before the compromise was released...
Not to mention that the software doesn't allow auto-updating unless you're using a paid copy...

Yeah it wasn't an old copy. It only affected 32-bit systems, which are rare these days. Here is an odd bit of info for you though. CCleaner Free does NOT support auto-update. However, on the one 32-bit machine we still have at work, I fired up CCleaner to do the weekly cleaning before image backup and guess what happened? Auto-update. First time I'd ever seen it do this. I thought the last version I installed manually must have added this as a new feature. Evidently not though. Still not sure exactly how it happened but my free version of CCleaner downloaded and installed it's own update to 5.33 without ever opening a browser. It was all done within the program interface. Thankfully as soon as the scan was done I closed it out completely and I long ago disabled active monitoring as it does nothing in the free version. So it never actually infected anything.

lol.....then just get rid of your computer and any piece of software you use. It ALL gets compromised eventually.

Windows gets compromised all the time. Get over it.

I have a 64 bit system and windows defender just informed me that it found the ccleaner malware and quarantined it. It was called "floxim" or something like that.
It has now been removed.

Yep it's actually embedded in the CCleaner program. If you have updated it then the executable and the infection are gone regardless. It does leave behind some registry entries if it actually executed. Check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Piriform\Agomo. If it doesn't exist you were never actually at risk.
