Hopefully never. Vulkan does the same thing without platform restrictions. Hell, it does it better.

Latest comparison we have is Ashes of the Singularity, and Vulkan is worse than DX12 for both AMD and Nvidia

Vulkan gets alot of praise due to DOOM, but OpenGL 4 typically performs worse than the DX11 path in games/benchmarks when you can compare them

Sniper Elite 4 actually has DX12 performing better than DX11 on all graphics cards

I can guarantee you that Vulkan performs better than DX12 on the majority of platforms.
Because DX12 doesn't run on anything but Windows 10.

And still DX12 has gotten more support than Vulkan so far

It's the same like when DX10 and 11 were exclusive to Vista and Win7, studios could have used OpenGL 3 and 4, since it worked on XP, but they didn't

And if they had, people wouldn't be forced into using Win10 for DX12.
I'm not saying Vulkan will win out. I'm saying it'd be better if it did.

It would help if all 3 consoles supported vulcan

I agree, but can't help thinking Vulkan won't have more success than OpenGL 3/4 had

Exactly. Microsoft should NOT get this much control over PC gamers. Their f***ing Visual Studio/C++ redistributable libraries cause enough trouble. That's another thing I don't understand. There was someone on the Steam forums for EDF 4.1 saying the game was working and broke when they installed something else because they ended up with a different version of the libraries. After all these years, games still crash because of these things with no explanation. The goddamn things STILL can't check the version of all dependencies and tell you if there's a version conflict!? Honestly, those redistributable libraries should just be included in the binary folder for each game now instead of being system wide. It might've made sense when games were small, but now that games are 50 gig anyway, who gives a f*** about an extra 100 meg or so of DLLs if it keeps the damn thing running smoothly no matter how many other games you install?

Never. We live in a multiplatform world. No one has time to be tied and locked into platforms when developing. I know I look for consumer friendly APIs. If I can't leverage their API and make it work for me then I simply don't use it. Many others are the same. Time is money these days.
