If they had to make it one button then there'd have to be some kind of "are you sure?" prompt and even then it would be a huge pain in the ass. I already have had trouble with bumping the windows key (which can take you right out of a fullscreen game in one keystroke) so no thanks Bill.

In fact, they make keyboards that can disable the windows key on demand to avoid the accidental press (or you can disable it with a registry key) so if he had gotten his way, there'd be keyboards with "reboot kill switches" built in to avoid the situation.

Maybe that's why he's upset? He couldn't sell us the special keyboard meant to avoid the annoyance?

That's due to its placement not its function or the fact that it's one button

It doesn't matter where you move the button, you're going to bump it in an inconvenient time sooner or later. It would also be so for the "one button reboot", only more inconvenient.

Normally the windows key isn't all that inconvenient though... "Oops, I bumped a button and now a window opened.. I can hit the button again and it's gone!". So change that now for a single button that reboots. "Oops, I bumped a button that reset my entire computer and now I probably lost a lot of work" (worst case scenario).

Still during a gaming session, anything that can pull you out of a game with a single button press is annoying. It's one reason why I'm glad the people who came up with "alt f4" didn't have the same stupid thought processes as Bill Gates.

Really though, I suspect his motivation for saying "I would make it a single button press" is because he didn't really have any regrets; he just needed some kind of "fluff" to tell the interviewer so they would go away satisfied.

Well, I don't do it with 1 hand normally, but if I did, then it'd be

pinky - Alt GR
thumb - Ctrl
pointer - Del

(Left hand)

or

pinky - ctrl
ring - shift
pointer - Esc

Yeah. That sounds like an IBM kind of decision.

Not the multi-key part, thats just sensible. Making the combination just jank enough to bother people.

Like the shocker... index finger on alt, middle finger on ctrl, pinky on delete

On second thought, it's more like Thumb, index and middle.
