The Atari Box 'console' sounds a lot like a PC using Ryzen/Vega tech.

As reported by Polygon, the Ataribox will launch a Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign sometime this Fall. If that goes well, the finished system will launch in Spring 2018, costing between $249 and $299 US, depending on your specific hardware configuration.

Atari adds the operating system will be based on Linux, and uses an AMD processor with Radeon Graphics technology. The console will support streaming, multimedia, web browsing, and video games (of course). In fact, customers will find tons of classic Atari games packaged into the system.

It's probably using one of their existing on-market ultramobile APUs, with the primary focus being on a "TV box" that has a bunch of Atari classics packed in for the kiddies.
At that price, there's no way it's using Ryzen/Vega.
What might be promising is it could be a super cheap steambox for entry level PC gaming.

It still just looks like a glorified mini NES classic type system. And for that $300 price, I may as well buy a mini NES from a scalper.

What "current" games will it play? Any news on that?

$299 is a high price without the Nintendo and Nvidia tax. No screen no gimmicks so this could be a powerful machine. Spring 2018 should have APUs powered by Ryzen and Vega tech. Vega will scale down below 56 and 64.

Switch is $299 with a 720p screen, dock, motion controllers, and Nintendo tax. $299 with Atari will offer more power especially since they're trying to break into the market again.

Didn't they learn anything from Steam Machines? Why in the holy hell are they using Linux?
