... and people are falling for it.

For those that don't know, Bethesda has been using loaded language like "Make America Nazi-Free Again", which is an obvious parody of Trump's slogan, as part of their W2 campaign. It's designed to bait out the idiots on twitter and bait them it did because they did get some salty replies. Those replies were all Bethesda needed to sell this story to sites like newsweek that they were under attack from the alt-right for their "controversial" stance of being anti-nazi. Give me a f***ing break.

"This is what our game is about. It's what this franchise has always been about. We aren't afraid to embrace what BJ stands for and what Wolfenstein represents. When it comes to Nazis, you can put us down in the 'against' column."
- Pete Hines, vice president of marketing and PR

Queue the slow sarcastic clapping for this man's incredibly brave stance against nazis.

It's stupid as hell but the frustrating thing is gamers are actually buying into this bulls***. Looking at this topic being discussed on reddit, empty comments that simply state "This is why I love wolfenstein" gets 3,000 points and people follow up on it with stuff like "BJ is a lean mean nazi-killing machine. I can't wait for the release of the new game", "will buy at full price to encourage more games about killing nazis", "I just added it to my list of must-haves... this 'controversy' just put this game in my "must buy" column", and "Honestly, all this talk has me hearing what an awesome game series this is, now I’m probably gonna play it".

This is pathetic. Has politics gotten so stupid that people don't even realize when they're obviously being manipulated?

I was already planning to buy it because TNO was a good game. That people get pissed over the marketing scheme is gravy.

its genius. They are playing people like a fiddle and the game is going to sell more because of it.

I don't really care if its about killing Nazis' or spoofing Trump or whatever. Game has no class based MP like RTCW. No buy.

It's not even that novel. Just a basic marketing strategy. Politics has nothing to do with it; they're simply using surface level social commentary as a springboard to boost sales.

What you should be talking about is the amount of idiots up in arms. The fact anyone would unironically be upset about an anti-nazi stance is a joke.

I don't normally pre-order games, but the fact that they're pissing people off because of a funny anti-Nazi campaign is making me wanna get this.

Based on the Pete Hines quote it looks like they're doing it in a tongue-in-cheek way. If people are going to take it super-seriously, that's on them. Meanwhile I didn't even know Wolfenstein had become a Bethesda property or that a new one is coming out because I get all my video game news from reading which games have pissed off GameFAQs today. So if I buy this game, that's on you.

He just lost himself a lot of sales. This is why politics and gaming should stay far away from each other.
