If you like Pinball, Pinball FX2 VR and Zaccaria Pinball are good in VR. Really makes you feel like you're standing in front of a real pinball machine.

Which of these is the better game? The tables on FX2 look more interesting but I'm not sure if that's a symptom of Zaccaria being in early access.

Robo Recall is probably my favorite "real game" in VR.

While I am not a fan of snap turning and teleporting (i also have a high tolerance for VR sickness/motion sickness though) I also found it very enjoyable.

There are moments in the game where the action would make me genuinely smile.

I also punched the light fixture in my room clean off the ceiling trying to grab an incoming rocket.

Honestly, it depends on what you prefer. If you prefer more realistic pinball then Zaccaria. If you prefer more futuristic pinball, then FX2... But like I said, the main benefit to Zaccaria is that there's a ton of pinball machines in their DLC and you can play them both in and out of VR (once you buy the VR DLC)

With FX2 Pinball in VR, even if you owned all the tables you'd STILL have to repurchases them in VR, meaning they're separate from the normal FX2 pinball. They also didn't bother to port over all their machines from FX2 and they've moved on to "FX3" now anyway.

I'd say that FX2 in VR looks better. It's a shame they don't have a VR mode for Pinball Arcade yet so you could play more real-world pinball machines in VR.

First, you should get a bookmark for the Vive subreddit. There are too many people here that still think VR is some sort of gimmick instead of the actual revolution in gaming that it is. I have a Vive and have barely played any flat games since I got it. It's amazing.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/

As for games, must-haves include:

H3VR (http://store.steampowered.com/app/450540) - A "weapon simulator sandbox" may or may not sound interesting to you but it has a lot of game modes and the weapons are all extremely well-modeled and interactive. For $20 this is honestly a steal already and the dev is constantly updating it. I would pay $40 for it and be happy.

Sairento (http://store.steampowered.com/app/555880) - Want to be a cyber ninja? This is your game. It's a great time to buy it since they recently added a bunch of new enemy types and bosses. They're still working on a single player campaign but it's honestly worth the cost right now. It's one of the most engrossing VR titles I've played so far. Hopefully you have a decent sized playspace because it does get a little *too* engrossing and pretty much all cases of me smashing something while in VR are due to this game.

Arizona Sunshine (http://store.steampowered.com/app/342180) - This is *thee* zombie shooter right now. The campaign is a bit short for the price but it's one of the few fully complete and polished campaigns available for a VR shooter that's not a stand-still wave shooter. It's also fun enough to warrant a few playthroughs and it has Hoard Mode and co-op for added replayability.

And as for stand-still wave shooters, you probably don't want a bunch of them since they permeate the VR market and most are crap but if you want to pick just one or two, here are a few of the best ones, IMO:

The Brookhaven Experiment (http://store.steampowered.com/app/440630)
Serious Sam: The Last Hope (http://store.steampowered.com/app/465240)
Eternity Warriors (http://store.steampowered.com/app/664090)

i mostly use vorpx or virtual desktop to play non-vr games in vr

@premature_tyrant
How does that work out? Mentioning that makes me super interested in what it would be like to play FEAR 1, FEAR Extraction Point, and Dead Space with it.

But I... actually come to think of it don't really have any concept of how VR displays/plays in general (outside of like full 3d interctive stuff with the room scale controls or whatever).

I don't know about VorpX other than it's kind of an expensive program and takes some tweaking to get it to work right (and won't work right with every game). Popular games, someone will have it figured out though.

As for non-VR games in VR with something like Virtual Desktop? I'd rather play in Bigscreen or the default VR theater that valve provides. Basically, the game is rendered on a virtual big screen TV and in some cases, having a screen big enough can make it feel like you're "in the game". Mostly racing games though, so if there's a racing game that doesn't support VR you can maybe play it in bigscreen.

I used Virtual desktop for a while but only because I didn't know about Bigscreen Beta (or it wasn't out at the time). Now, I'd say Bigscreen beta is far superior for the simple reason that you can invite friends to play with you (If it's a multiplayer online game, they can set it up so their screen is right next to yours and it's like a virtual LAN party).

Here's a question- turns out I have the option of two packs of free software. Both come with Tiltbrush and the viveport thing, but one has Fallout VR, the other has Everest and Richie's Plank Experience.

Now, I don't really have any interest in Fallout VR but I'm thinking if I get a code for it I might take it and trade. How is Everest VR as a thing? Is it worth considering that option?

EDIT: Just kidding. Value wise it would be silly to not take the Fallout option.
