CPU: Intel i5 7600K
RAM: 16GB DDR4
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

I currently have a 27 inch 1080p monitor, but for a slew of reasons I'm looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor; same size.

Should be, my 970 can run some newer games at 1440p, and your card, ram and cpu are much better than mine.

Hell, on my setup I can run older (or newer non-demanding games like Dead Cells or Life is Strange) games at 4k

I have i7 1070 and havent played a game yet that doesnt run in full ultra 2k and 144fps with gsync

Then you have not played the more demanding titles yet, as gtx 1070 will not get 144fps in 1440p, as even the gtx 1080 ti will not do it.

But if you use a gsync monitor, it doesnt really matter anyway.

I get full 144 frames in some newer games on 1440p Ultra All

Yeah no. I got an i7 and a 1080 with a 1440P 144hz screen and I don't hit solid 144fps even in Overwatch with all settings maxed, let alone something actually somewhat demanding like PUBG
If brute force doesn't fix the problem, you're not using enough of it.

I get about 90fps with everything maxed at 2k on pubg. Just poorly optimized. But i get 144hz on plenty other games

I can't disagree on that. =D

a GTX 1070 is fine for 1440P 144hz, but don't think you can crank everything to the max and be stable 144fps always. Tweaking settings should take you there or reasonably close anyway.
