Modders are mostly unpaid amateurs so what do you expect? If you worked on something in your spare time and you weren't going to get any money for it and even worse, you'd get a lot of hate for it, would YOU really put forth the effort to make it top notch?

There's probably a few really good quest mods, but asking for good voice acting from amateurs is like being mad that homemade porn doesn't have better camera work and lighting. It's free and not professional.

Still there's a ton of free and not professional stuff out there that makes a ton of difference in games. Mostly it's tweaks to the gameplay, bug fixes, new textures, improved models, and ambiance type stuff. It's hard to write a good story, and it's harder to get good people to do voice acting for your story.

I think TC just had expectations of professional level s*** for free made by nobodies. Unrealistic expectations tend to lead to disappointment.

Get the Forgotten City mod for Skyrim. It's the best quest I've played in the game.

Yes. Players often know more about a game than the developers themselves. Developers don't spend thousands of hours playing their game.

You're definitely picking up some poop mods. FONV Willow mod by itself s***s all over anything Bethesda has done in terms of companion interaction. Besides, FO4 and NV wouldn't be as good as they are without the ideas from Fallout Wanderer's Edition.

For gamebryo/creation engine, it's all about custom tailoring your experience to suit your needs rather than trying to fully expand the game. Like stated, modders are usually making mods as a hobby and not a job, hence the quality. The balance is usually based off other things, like total conversions.

Mods are much more pronounced in other games, even games like Doom 1/2 are converted to modern-esque gameplay. There are some mods that completely change how some games are played, like in Xcom 1/2's long war mods.

This is one of the best mods I have ever seen, and with the amount of work and time that went into it they could have potentially made it into its own game and sold it. The problem with modding is any joe blow can make a mod with some minor knowledge and thus we get a lot of underwhelming and/or bad mods, but when talented people with the time to make something make mods you can get some insanely good s***.

After Nude mods best ones are usually overhauling mods because they usually fix or improve Bethesdas s***ty game mechanics.

Most mods do kinda suck, but what do you expect for free. For me mods are just a way to get a bit more use out of a game that I've already played unmodded a bunch, and I just want a new experience.

But there are games like Stalker and Vampire that are unplayable without mods.
