Motion blur was implemented in games to make analog stick camera movement look more cinematic and less robotic. It's actually a hinderance to mouse based play, which is why we see an overwhelming majority choosing "off" here at the PC board.

If I wanted games to look cinEAmatic I'd buy an ubiconic title. Maybe a modern brown military shooter with a baseball cap and a jacket. :-/

I think it's useful for some racing games to give the sensation of speed but majority of cases it makes things look worse. I always have it off.

Gee, I always considered Motion Blur as a means to improve performance. With Motion Blur, the system can temporarily reduce target rendering resolution because the blur will mask the loss of definition, allowing higher frame rates in high motion events.
