Don't buy the game. Send a strongly worded email to the publisher and tell them why you're not buying the game, if you feel so inclined. If sales go down, and the publisher knows why, change will happen.

Demanding government involvement to classify that business practice as something it is not is just silly.

No discussion about this is interesting at this point. Somehow hot topics in gaming wear out their welcome quicker than they do in politics

Watch the video before spewing your copy/pasted garbage here.

Also, Shadow of War is an amazing game. Once you ignore the chicken littles and play it for yourself it becomes very obvious that the loot boxes are a tacked-on feature that don't really effect anything at all..

Aren’t they the only way to legendaries? I’ve watched my roommate play for ~3 hours and he’s played about 20. The game is far from amazing

yeah he really didn't watch the video. The presenter has some well thought out points and objections.

I linked this in the earlier topic about this same thing and no one cared. I don't think GameFaqs is capable of understanding a video on Tarmack's level.

All they are capable of doing is derailing topics whenever a good TotalBiscuit video gets linked not even talking about what the video was about and just insulting each other or talking about cancer for some reason.

He contradicts himself. Says the definition of gambling is "wagering a thing of a value for a chance at another thing of value," then says moments later that virtual items from loot boxes have no value. If virtual items have no value, then loot boxes wouldn't constitute gambling by the definition he cited.

"People don't care about the same things I care about so they aren't intelligent."

That's totally topical and not contributing to derailing from the subject at hand.

Uh, funny enough Activision was just granted a patent for exactly what this video is talking about.

https://www.rollingstone.com/glixel/news/how-activision-uses-matchmaking-tricks-to-sell-in-game-items-w509288

No really, the patent description is literally "The invention relates to a system and method for driving microtransactions in multiplayer video games".

Here's a choice quote:
"For example, if the player purchased a particular weapon, the microtransaction engine may match the player in a gameplay session in which the particular weapon is highly effective, giving the player an impression that the particular weapon was a good purchase. This may encourage the player to make future purchases to achieve similar gameplay results."

If ya'll still don't see the need for regulation on loot box content than you are delusional and ignoring the very real fact that publishers are literally manipulating your spending habits via matchmaking and item drops.

It needs to be regulated. Period. The conversation about that is over. The conversation of how that should be done begins.
