No idea, just came back after years of being a console gamer. Been with it for only few months now. Came back at the right time since it has big picture mode AKA you can use your controller with the majority of games. Also check out cheapshark for all the latest deals from different sites.

If by "change in sales" you mean "are the flash sales with the insane low prices back?"

No.

I certainly don't.

Sitting behind the screen monitoring the store page all day long was annoying as f***. And on top of that, there being a chance for some games to be actually cheaper for no reason at a random flash just a day later? Now that's what truly ridiculous and stupid about the whole mechanism.

It's kinda like how JC Penney fooled people by putting "75% off!" on a pair of jeans when that was the real price. Then they promised to stop lying to people and everyone freaked out and wanted to be lied to again.

Seeing the super low prices (when you could catch them) was great, but the only reason they did this was because it somehow translated to more sales AFTER the flash deal was over. The longer they extended the flash deal, the less profitable it was so they started making the deals worse and worse...and now here we are.

I'd rather be able to refund a bad game than to get a great price on the game and find out later it's bad. Of course someone will inevitably tell me "Do your research!" but you can't always tell the game is a bad one unless it's just a piece of s*** to everyone and then you don't need to do any research because the word of mouth will have preceded it.

Whatever... you can still find good deals on games sold as CD Keys because those are non-refundable and thus they're able to go lower without worry that you'll refund it when it somehow sells for cheaper somewhere else.

In the old good sales the flash sales where always something that would be a highlighted daily sale during the event. So even if you missed it on the 'flash' sale, you could catch it as the main-paged highlighted sale the next day.

Really all the 'flash' sales where was just the normal sales that would happen throughout the event, but given the "Limited time call now!" infomercial treatment.

What's more likely, CoD2 to go on sale for more than 50% off or a flash sale return?
If you don't like microtransactions in full priced AAA games, vote with your wallet and don't buy those games.

Yeah they didn't start that right away, and that's right about the time everyone started whining "sales aren't as good this year as they used to be". It probably wasn't that big of a change, like 80% off at best instead of 90% but it was the start of the end.

I can remember when I would catch a sale at 2am and see it run for like 3 or 4 hours and that was it. Everyone who was asleep? Tough luck. Likewise I'd be at work and see something go on sale at 11am and ending by 3pm and I wouldn't be able to get home in time to buy it.

The 8 hour sales that carried over into the next day (becoming 16 hours) was like the 3rd or 4th year they were really having big sales. (so 2013 or 2014?)

I'm pretty sure they dipped deeper into the discount percentages when they were more of a real limited time deal instead of 2/3rds of a day. The easier it was to actually GET the discount, the less of a discount they were willing to provide.

I'd find a way to prove it to you but really all I have is the prices I paid for stuff back during the "real good ole days" vs what you could expect to see it on sale for now, and in some cases, it's been long enough that the regular price has dropped to close to what it was on sale for back when it was new so that's not too helpful.
