My friend's kid was hitting some buttons on their laptop and now right click doesn't work on mouse, or on the touchpad.

Googling led me to an official answer by MS where you have to download something and (lol) right click to "run as admin"! So there's probably also a way to get around that, to set it to run as admin without right clicking... Maybe setting up an event to have it run as admin every time.

Just wondering if anybody here heard of this and has any quick fixes.

Have you rebooted?

Sometimes right click doesn't work on the taskbar for me (but it works in other applications) but it starts again if I reboot.

Real basic advice, I know, but hey if it works....

That's one of the things I asked them, they claim they did. I'm curious to hear how it turns out for them.

You can use the command prompt to run a program as admin. That'll bypass your right-click issue.

1. Hit Windows key + R
2. type "cmd"
3. enter the following command :

runas /profile /user:administrator "Drive:\folder\program"

Where “Drive:\folder\program” is the path to the microsoft hotfix.
Ex: "C:\Downloads\mshotfix.exe"

You can also hit the windows key + X to bring up a menu allowing you to do a bunch of stuff, among them opening a command shell as admin.

Left click > alt+enter > compatibility > run as admin?

Those last three are great answers, thanks. I forgot what the command prompt syntax would be, and those last two suggestions are great too. Looks like "Left click > alt+enter > compatibility > run as admin" would absolutely work.

Great, thanks a lot everybody.

I nearly forgot to mention, the only time I've ever had a problem with right clicks being recognized, I had a key stuck in the down position and once I unstuck that key the right clicks started working again. I don't recall which key it was though. So maybe check your keyboard and see if anything may be stuck between the keys causing it to stay pressed

I sort of had it for a few months on Windows 10 but it was exclusively with right-clicking Notepad on the taskbar. Everything else was fine but one day the right-click menu just stopped working for it. And yeah, it just fixed itself... eventually *shrug*

It's one of, I think, 3 issues I've had with Windows 10 since the initial release lol. Most recently the Creators Update breaking something with icon spacing forcing the bottom row to move halfway out the screen other spaces to push around, kinda fixed it. Can't remember the other issue.
