"Personal standpoint? A lot of it is probably money. A good solid multiplayer game will yield great revenue, and people will tell their friends to get a game to play it with them. A multiplayer game on console will require people to keep the disc, whereas a single-player game some people will return it or trade it once they’ve finished with it, and of course developers and publishers don’t see any money from trade-ins. That’s not the consumer’s fault, but there are a lot of aspects like that that get accounted for business-wise."

Agree?

Single player games are dying but the multiplayer games aren't getting any better. I wish there were more innovative, interesting MMOs, personally.

Sure, they can create a drought and a single player fps will come in and sell millions because the market was ignored.

What the majority of business people don't realize is that doing the same thing as everyone else isn't how to make money. You have to be unique and create your own market.

That's purely a console thing though. Nobody trades in PC Games because they're all tied to our steam account.

But whatever, I think as AAA's ignore the single player, Indies will pick it up. I really don't need 58 GB of cutscenes in my games anyway.

Then why did they make the game?

In any case, you have multiplayer games like Brink or Lawbreakers or Battleborn that flop and nobody wants to play. Making a multiplayer game isn't an instant money-maker like it used to seem.

MMOs are high cost, high risk ventures with a very difficult market to penetrate. I'm surprised there are as many as there are.

Brink

I have a feeling the aesthetic they were going for had a lot to do with the failure. I mean look at these ugly f***ers

They look like caricatures of stereotypes of a bad joke.

I don't know about the other two... I think didn't battleborn release too close to Overwatch so it was kinda like the same fanbase had to choose between games (since nobody wants to play the unpopular game)? If it was released on its own it might have done better.

Good single player plot-based FPS's are probably my second favorite genre after strategy games. I'd love to get some more...

The genre isn't totally dry, but the last one I remember liking is either Dishonored or Bioshock Infinite (whichever came out most recently), neither of which were stellar...
