i dont like to spend more than $150-$200 on a monitor for a pc and thats around the price of 1080p screens right now but i want something higher resolution so i have an excuse to buy a beefier gpu

how long till they drop in price and i am ok with 60hz monitors the one i have now probably is that

Once the 4K / 144Hz / IPS / HDR monitors start to regularly trickle out next year, prices of 1440p monitors will start to go down, I think.

Also, I think there will be some good deals for 1440p monitors this Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

This is what I'm waiting for as well. Next gen NVIDIA cards will be my upgrade from the current 970 I'm using and then it'll be time to jump to 1440p. I personally think 4k is a waste for a screen that sits a couple feet from me. 1440p on a 27" would be nice though.

That sounds like a personal problem... I think 2560x1440 monitors are pretty damn affordable these days, definitely "mainstream" in that regard, at least if you're not looking for fancy features like 144 Hz or G-Sync. Not hard to find units around $250. I had my work order me one a plain Acer one and it was $279.99, and that was last year.

Said 199 when I linked it. Either way, if 40 bucks extra is too much for you, maybe save another week, or get a better job.
