Steam isn't a publicly traded company. One guy has always owned it. It doesn't have share holders.

I'd bet my life savings that people have tried to buy it in the past by much bigger companies than EA but Gabe Newell has not sold it. I doubt he ever will.

But in a purely hypothetical scenario, I'd probably still use Steam, i don't like the idea of never playing the 300+ games i have on it ever again, but i'd stop buy from them.

Probably go back to only playing older games. 50% of the games I play are old anyways.

And I would also probably go back to sail the seven seas. I stopped sailing because of Steam, BTW.

Someone bought them up. It's dead right now, but they're planning on resurrecting it.
Wikipedia even says that the website is back up but not functional yet. Apparently it was bought by "OnePlay"... some danish company?

Desura has been "coming back" for almost a year now, but still isn't fully functional. Indiegamestand also announced a comeback/server migration, but then just ended up folding.

I would be devoting all of my time to running homebrew Pathfinder, DnD 5e, and Starfinder games.

EA cannot afford steam and maybe GOG but they would not sell them selfs out like that.
