Stuff like this is why I'll never get into subscription-based gaming. It's just a matter of time until you get effed and all your money is down the drain.

Kind of a flawed way of looking at it. The subscription itself is keeping the game afloat and expanding the quality of your gameplay over time.

Any long running subscription based game has multiple games worth of content (game depending) that wasn't there when it first came out.

Yeah, someone can plop hundreds of hours into a game. But how many years or decades has someone else put into a subscription based game which has had continous updates and new additions?

Really loved Marvel Heroes from the beta, and I've spent far more time and money in it than I want to even consider. I have well over 130+ hours on Squirrel Girl alone, and every hero pre-Nick Fury up to 60, or prestiged even higher. Squirrel Girl even got to cosmic 60. Which was a real pain, even for her, but I did it. I never intended to get anyone else to cosmic 60, but I did intend to full prestige more up until cosmic. Even did that with Thor and Cap Marvel.

And then they f***ed it all up with the Omega patch. I honestly hoped they would come to their senses and fix things, but I see that was a stupid thing to hope for. They only kept making things worse, and all the promises about "an eventual, non-confirmed console version" would not affect the PC-version was 100% bulls***. Console port released, PC-version dead. Quite literally, it hasn't even been updated much in almost a year.

But at least the game introduced me to Squirrel Girl, so there's that. Easily one of my favorite Marvel-characters of all time. :-)

Makes sense, considering the top ARPGs atm are Grim Dawn and Path of Exile.

I like Grim Dawn a lot, but it's eclipsed by the playerbase of D3.

Don't play the game but, are they gonna reimburse people or something? or is that all down the drain?

Why would players get reimbursed? I mean unless they pre-ordered content (read heroes/team-ups) that's now cancelled any and all purchases are in the same category as subscription fees which is to say a fee you willingly paid for an as-is service, not a product.

Eh, I've played the game through both Steam and the X1. I've read several stories of people getting refunds through MS for purchases made in the last 90 days for the game. I have no idea if the applies to other platforms as well.

So I played very little of this in general-I tried it a few summer sales ago (back when they had that Civil War pack for like two bucks) and I thought it was okay, dug the style and content, never really clicked with the mechanics.

I got the feeling it was already sorta dying out before this year-between that summer and this Biggest Update Ever it seemed like it got...like, maybe three characters added? And then they ditched a bunch because Marvel's pissy about the Fantastic Four, and I haven't heard anything about new characters since. What actively killed it mechanically about these updates, though?
By Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings.

Removal of game mechanics to streamline the game for compatibility with consoles, and in the process destroying the soul of the game.

^yep, they removed a lot of mechanics that worked well for the PC version, at first the Devs were silent about the console version and many users were in denial because it would mean a loss of resources for the PC version but there was no other explanation, l mean, why would they remove the second and third power bar? Obviously, just to simplify it for consoles/controllers.

There was controller support for the PC version before, and multiple bars worked well but your average console gamer probably wouldn't bother customizing their keys so Gazillion did it for them and screwed over the PC players in the process.

That's just an example of how it slowly died because of consoles (like their previous game), l could write pages of changes to the systems but it's all pointless now.

There was also content problems.

I recently logged back in to get one final look before uninstalling and they never added the 3rd raid (supposed to be Thanos), they only had 3 one-shots (kind of like dungeons) and seemed like the same patrol areas.

They were adding new characters and changing old systems but don't think they added new things to actually play on so you just did the same s*** over and over again but without the randomness that makes D3 and PoE well liked.
