My point is entirely about the semantics of what they wrote.

Very good of you to admit it.

I mean, it's obvious that they don't intend for people to manipulate the system. I just don't like it when people use imprecise language. I'm annoyingly pedantic in that way.

Eh, just to be clear I definitely wasn't manipulating the system for the "free games" bit, the only point that's made under the "Abuse" category. I will however no longer be purchasing titles I think *might* be interesting, which was how 90% of my refunds worked. Buy a game I think might be interesting. Never early access. Not necessarily AAA or indie, just games that for whatever reason didn't have a lot of info on them. Try it, if I like it, keep it. If I don't like it, refund it. I have occasionally refunded games for tech issues, or other things like no FoV slider in games that need it to prevent me from getting motion sickness.

I've purchased games I definitely wanted before, not even hit 2 hours with them and kept them because the intent behind the purchase wasn't "try before commit". If they have an issue with frequency of refunds though, they really need to put that language into the Refunds ToS. Unfortunately there is absolutely no way to contact Steam support beyond the premade ticket submission system because their customer service is pretty much completely automated. Only exception seems to be when one of these premade tickets gets escalated, and whatever response is received then closes that ticket, no chance for discourse. No live chat, email or callbacks. I find it pretty sad that there hasn't been a stink raised about this when people get upset over more trivial things in the gaming community, though in fairness, Steam doesn't have a lot of issues that are due to something they did, it's largely a content issue which is obviously developer oriented.

Regardless, even the Microsoft Store has live support. And although they don't know much, they do solve the issue for you. One way or another. I've never had to deal with Steam support for a genuine issue before, now that I want to, it seems like they're doing the "f*** you" money routine. Even Blizzard doesn't stoop that low.

Honestly only time I have refund a game is if it just straight up didnt work . I think using the steam refund to "try out " games falls under abusing the system and could ruin it for everyone .
The MMO genre is amazingly stagnant. It makes money, but creatively speaking, it's dead.

I can do this until 500 if necessary:

http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/

maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn't like it.

They also said this:
Abuse

Refunds are designed to remove the risk from purchasing titles on Steam—not as a way to get free games. If it appears to us that you are abusing refunds, we may stop offering them to you. We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.

So all they're saying is that you're starting to get to the point where it looks like abuse.

They didn't say "we're cutting you off right now". They didn't say "your refunds are denied". They said

You get this one, but you might want to slow down a bit because you're starting to push the limits of the system.

That's it. You shouldn't need to go to 500 for this because I think you understand it. However you can play dumb if you like and keep going because "LOL 500!". Good luck on playing dumb and suckering everyone into playing along with you.

You can request refunds for literally any reason, yeah, but 4 games in a month is basically buying and refunding a game each week.

I think the idea of refunds was to be a safety net for people who got duped into trash games on Steam Greenlight and for customers who bought s***ty ports the devs/publishers refuse to fix. A way to help take the risk from unexpectedly horrendous purchases, not as a demo service.

If you read the terms I've included in the pic, it does indeed say it can operate as a demo service (maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn't like it. It doesn't matter.)

Anyway, I've bought 7 games in the last month. 4 have been returns. They've refunded me 35% of what I've put into their wallet over the last 4 weeks. I don't know why they'd be complaining.

That is VERY unlikely the entire terms. Perhaps read the entirety of the return policy terms?

EDIT: I see the topic had more posts than I though and someone already mentioned the abuse part.

I did. Perhaps you should take another look - people keep saying Steam is clear it isn't about demoing games, but that's nowhere to be found in the terms.

And to be clear, they're not denying your refund, they're just saying that you're approaching the limits of what LOOKS like abuse.

For a reason that's in discord with their own terms, correct.
