get my popcorn out, and wait (for the inevitable shakedown or bubble burst).

I really hope there's another video game crash and all these lame corporations severely downsize or go out of business... but it probably won't happen unless something happens to make the industry as a whole so bad that nobody wants to play games anymore.

There's a simple solution.

Take a stand and don't buy games that piss out off.

Just because several AAA companies wanna nickel and dime you doesn't mean that everyone's trying to make all the money in the world, or none at time. Give games that that are pay to win all the money they deserve, none of it whatsoever. Vote with your wallet.

Well ahead of you, that's absolutely my policy. Has been for a long time. I was avoiding any Capcom game with Disk Locked Content, for example. Mostly Capcom since they did it the most frequently.

Currently any game that is a full priced release with microtransactions gets the no-sale treatment from me.
And no, I'm not going to pirate it either. I don't want to send the message that I'm okay even *playing* the game if it has microtransactions. I certainly don't want to send the message they should double down on DRM to stop me.

I only play retro games, indie games, and the occasional Nintendo game ever since this generation began.

I have not even bought Street Fighter 5 or MVC infinite because of this.

I've been more and more hesitant to jump on games that look like they could be fun but have awful practices. I'm just flatout done with CoD and likely Battlefield/front at this rate. I can tell when a game has actual soul behind it and isn't just another cash-grabbing scheme.

Yes, business is business and it always has, but there's clearly a greater divide lately between companies that put soul into their games and the ones that just want a quick buck. Like, that goes for any business. You can tell when they're simply doing what they love and make money as a side-effect, not as a main priority.

I just bought The Last Remnant on steam. Does that count?

I play games YEARS after they're released not just mere months. Looking forward to playing FFXV once FFXVI is out. :D

Nah, Im still enjoying Battlefield 4 which I bought for just $20 1 month after release on Origin, though I wouldnt have been playing it now if EA hadnt give away all the DLC for free. Though I would buy Battlefront 2 just because EA has given me a bunch of free games and DLC.

You did just read the quote where EA says they regret not putting micro transactions in Battlefield 4, right?

Battlefield 4 already has microtransactions.

Ya but its just for the most part shortcut packs, xp boosts, and cosmetics. Its been fine.....for now.

I have a huge backlog that could last me a good long while. But my good friends play some big releases and I enjoy playing with them.

I thought I'd never get anything from EA again, but then they announced Anthem. Been waiting for a game like that forever. Me and friend are really hyped.

Battlefield is all I care about from EA.

I dislike the argument that "It's business. It's there to make money"
For one...duh. It's such a trite argument.

For two, look at other games that have made money. Look at Hellblade for example. A well budgeted title that cost what it cost to make, didn't have an overblown budget, it was priced well and it sold enough to make a profit.

There are so many games that come out making a profit simply because they were well designed, compelling and gamers though not only that they were worth the money, but they were worth telling others about and urging them to try it.

It's almost as if making a good product will make people want to give money to you willingly!
