well i edited, apparently youtube will give you vp9 if you upload at 1440P or higher res. and i think 30FPS would be less pixellated than 60 as well, because you don't get double the bitrate for 60FPS, so it stands to reason 30FPS would look better.

Using a high bitrate wouldn't actually work out?

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

4K60 HDR recommended is 66-85 Mbps. Haven't actually tested but for my current target/render settings I had just set it to the maximum for HDR which for 1080p60 is 15 Mbps. My past uploads I used recommended for standard settings. If I remember correctly I had my target bitrate (render) to the minimum standard recommended and the maximum to the maximum standard recommended. I changed both to the maximum hdr recommended for my uploads in the future.

4K60 recommended is 53-68 Mbps though. So that's close to double at least. [35 >> 70] (35-45 Mbps recommended for 30 FPS)

Or are you actually paying zero heed to what they recommend? I've always just paid heed to their recommendation and figured that'd make it best since I assumed if you did higher it would just get compressed to their recommended settings anyway. So I just stuck to their recommended. I don't really go back over my videos though and compare since it'll come out to what it'll come to, don't really see what I could do about it.

Plus my upload speed isn't exactly gigabit, so it takes a few hours generally to upload. Having to re-upload isn't exactly what I'm looking for, lol. Guess I could always just let it go overnight though.

you can "force" VP9 encoding on videos you've already uploaded to youtube:

or do it manually when you first upload like this:

make sure it fits specs and file format. Then they don't do anything to it.
