I almost find it hard to believe given its EA, but I got a feeling its Disney more than EA.

Probably just broken or being revamped or refreshed. The entire point of a multiplayer game is the microtransactions, so no way in hell they are getting rid of them.

The real amazing bit isn't even that... it's the reply thread that followed. @_@

“Temporarily removed”

They are just doing this to hopefully boost sales then I’m sure on a month or two they will be back and only slightly less worse then they were before.

EA is bringing back microtransactions "at a later date"

[UPDATE 3] Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners weighed in on the news on Twitter, pointing out that microtransactions and loot boxes are not going away. "They're already accepted," he said. "All that's happening is EA tweaking the system to make it 'fun and addictive" instead of 'intrusive and predatory."

Interesting, they're still losing a bunch of money by removing it for their opening week. I imagine the negative press and huge amount of cancelled preorders convinced them that this was necessary.

Well, it's one battle won for now but I still think we are screwed in the long run as far as a lot of AAA games go. Luckily I'm on pc and have smaller devs and a 30 year backlog of classics to play.
