The Android version shoves news in your face whenever you open a new tab which I am very miffed about. Hate all these companies thinking we need to constantly be seeing sensationalist headlines everywhere in our lives (Windows start screen for example). No way to turn it off which is the real problem.

On PC you can customize your tab page with that setting star link on the upper right corner where you can uncheck the pocket recommendations and highlights, removing all those headlines. Hopefully you can do this too on android.

Is this the Highlights? There is a way to turn it off and only leave your pinned/most visited pages.

New page -> Settings icon top right within the tab -> uncheck stuff you don't want

Unfortunately you only get half as many pinned pages as before

Yeah, I actually dislike this a fair bit. They've got some work to do, just gotta give it time.

I'm happy with it, but then I'm a chrome user migrating over so I expected to have to get used to a new system. To me, it feels fast and modern.

You can keep the same number of pinned sites. In the tab preferences link at the upper right check top sites and show two rows option, giving you the same number(12) of pinned sites as before. I also unchecked the pocket recommendations and highlights options making the opening page as clean as possible.

I am pretty happy with the speed of this version. The previous version was really lagging. Now it is quite fast, faster than chrome or edge.

only thing I don't like is how it looks aesthetically, but I'm sure over time I'll figure out how to fix it back the way it was before because its still customizable.

for some reason it made the forward/back/refresh arrows piss yellow and moved the address bar back under the tab bar. there are also random gaps in the address bar called "flexible space" that weren't there before on mine.

no it sucks

THIS. They broke No Script (the only reason I even use FireFox) and my browser hung up twice while checking out their new crap. I swear it’s slower, like it hangs at certain tasks for just the briefest of instances. I had to rearrange their stupid toolbar layout to bring back my bookmarks button and get rid of the dead space. I’m not happy at all.

It's pretty hard for me to break away from Chrome at this point so meh. They had their chances a long time ago. It's like why bother with Vega64 now when i've had my 1080ti for over a year already?

You're probably not alone in that. I was shocked to see reports of Chrome thoroughly dominating the browser market in 2017, like almost 60% of desktop users on Chrome. Even though Google advertises it in their searches, I'd wrongly assumed that most people still use the default browser for their operating system (so, IE or Edge in most cases).

Personally I've always hated Chrome's aesthetic and menus, and back when I tried it it was also a resource hog compared to FireFox though I think that's no longer the case. FireFox has actually changed a lot of its design to more closely resemble Chrome, too, so at this point I'm not even sure I have a legitimate reason to still be using FireFox.

That being said, Quantum hasn't given me any grief on desktop since the only extension I need is uBlock Origin. Tabs on top are ugly to me but not hugely important. I'll just avoid updating on my phone until I know it can be configured to function how the previous version did.

There's a significant improvement with regards to performance.

There are a few things I don't like with regards to the UI design and interface.
Oh, I don't want to walk that far. Anything that takes more than 12 steps isn't worth doing! Eh? 12? Get it? Steps! Hehehe.- Homer J. Simpson
