What exactly prompted the more attractive pricing of the GTX 970 anyway?

The GTX ?60 line ascending to a decently powerful status changed things too of course, but the ?70 line seems $100+ more than the GTX 970 was, most of the time.

I find it insane people would pay that much for a GPU, but hey if people can afford it...

Non of this matters until we know how powerful these cards will actually be. I have a feeling the 1080 Ti will be pretty close to what the 1180 will be anyway.

This isn't on Google. It's posted from someone who works in the industry on Facebook set to private.

Riiight, so you have no verifiable source and you're pulling this "info" right out of your ass as usual.

The 1070 was supposed to be around $100 cheaper at retail, but when Pascal launched, people waiting to upgrade with little willpower etc. lapped them up anyway, so the higher prices stuck.

1080 was $599 USD at launch. The Founders Edition was $699 but was limited.
1180 is rumored to retail $100 USD more while FE will be $800.

No 1080 sold for 599. AIB and Founders were all priced at 700. Just like the 1070 NEVER sold at MSRP.

If the 1080 was 599 then RX Vega 64 is 499. They're suggested at those prices but weren't in reality.
It's not the end of the world, but we can see it from here.

Wow, wtf amd, this is all your fault.

Isn't intel considering making GPUs? So hopefully some competition against Nvidia then.

I'm sure they'll be great competition to Qualcomm lol

The funny thing is, Qualcomm is powered by AMD's Mobile GPU technology, which they didn't have any faith in.

Exactly. FE came out first @700 before the aib partners. I remember cuz that was the highest an 80 model had sold for. Hope this isn’t true but it won’t be surprising. It looks like if you want the best GPU for the current year, whether the 80 or 80Ti will cost you 700 now :(.

And as for Intel, it’ll be years and I’d bet they ain’t focused on gaming but on the professional side. Trying to take some of Nvidias gravy.
I can be patient, but I'm not waiting!

At least this would lower workstation card costs. Like that new 3 grand Volta.
