Oh and btw, an RFC is a description of a technical system, not a legally binding set of absolute requirements. There are a great many things in this world which are described by RFCs that don't follow them to the letter in implementation. The main thing you should take away from reading it is that such a capability does in fact exist.

I think the whole point of this topic is that such a capability does in fact exist... and that it's something that was pretty well previously unknown or unrealized... and that it's a pretty dick move.

Honestly, I would actually rather they do a one-time redirect, similar to front-end agreement pages or something before you can access local networks, than having a sketchy looking pop-up injection that literally alters the original web page like they're doing.

First, feel free to point to the law that says they're required to inform the user of such actions.

In fact, your continued insistence that "it's fine" doesn't seem to hold up to scrutiny - every time I present something against it, you just come up with something irrelevant. You have yet to convince me that "it's fine" - your very first defence of that was "it's documented". I challenge that assertion and you don't seem to have an answer to that. So what if it's documented if nobody knows, nor can get to it.

If you want to claim the documentation is the basis of the system being fine to involve users in, then that relies on the users being presented with the documentation. If you don't agree with that, then your plead for documentation is meaningless.

I don't really give a f*** if you agree that it's fine or not. That's the part you seem confused by. Your agreement or disagreement is inconsequential.

The capability IS documented, Comcast are as far as I'm aware under no obligation to explicitly lay that out to every customer, and it is in fact fine. Your opinions on the matter are as irrelevant as your opinion on gravity. Now if you'd like to present some evidence of a law being broken, by all means do so.

The whole point of the topic was that people were complaining that this was going on, and to let others know that this is the kind of s*** you can expect from Comcast. Good luck in finding a better ISP... I'm sure they're set up so that they're the best choice you have (unless google fiber is an option).

Google is kind of abandoning fiber, they are going for satellites now. Ya a lot of times you can't just switch ISPs.

Because there's so much opposition to it that it takes forever to get anything set up. I know.

Satellite won't be better... it might be better at providing a "poverty line" option for people who can't afford better, but I think the latency on satellite is gonna always keep that one as a last resort for me.

I could switch but it's always the lesser of two evils here. If you want cable, there's only one choice...AT&T U-Verse is probably way worse and costs way more (and they want to sell TV anyway).

Probably do well in the sticks.

The problem is as you're climbing the ladder, the people ahead of you are kicking you in the head to keep you from climbing.
